Cryptids & Canines

Currently, I am working on editing my first novel titled "Cryptids & Canines ". I first started working on this piece for NaNoWriMo of 2022, where I completed writing my first draft. Since then I have been on & off working on editing it, as college and life unfortunately happens.This story has friends to enemies to lovers, LGBTQIA+ representation, hockey, and a dystopian world.Below, you can find the synopsis, a small excerpt, some art, and the "official" Spotify playlist.

Years in the future after The Final War that devastated most of humanity and destroyed majority of the world, The American States has held on to one game; ice hockey. Though many of the original rules have been lost to time, the sport continues to be a huge hit and a source of escape for many in a fucked up post-apocalyptic society.Sage and Mateo are childhood friends who both grew up on ice hockey and shared the same dream, which they achieve; to get into The Academy of Ice Hockey (AIH) and be drafted into one of the eleven teams on The New Association of Hockey (NAH).But two years after joining the Radcliff Retrievers, a new team is formed; the Covington Cryptids. With the promise of being the best they can be, Mateo is invited and Sage notices a change in their best friend. Now, Sage is going to have to figure what's truly happening within the Covington Cryptids... before he loses his best friend forever.

"Fucking say something!" I plead him. I find myself pushing him and he stumbles against the table, putting his hands behind him so he doesn't fall on top of it. I scoff. "I can't believe you. Why aren't we talking?! For what? Whyyy?!" I can feel myself ramping up again, the tears threatening just at the edge of my eyes."This is childish, Sage," Mateo says as he stands himself back up."Ooooh! Mister All-Star speaks!" I mock. He steps closer to me, towering over me. I feel my heart quickening."Stop making a scene," he hisses, looking down at me and staring daggers. It makes me throw my head back and laugh for some reason."Oooh! You want a scene?! I can show you a scene!" I challenge him.Kris puts a hand on my shoulder and tugs on it in an effort to bring me back to our table. I try to shrug him off."Sage, just leave it. He's not worth it."He's not worth it? No, Kris misunderstands. He's worth everything to me.I shake my head at Mateo and laugh at him. "I'll see you in the rink, Finnegan."
